Obverse description Central field bears the crowned Royal Arms of Spain, depicting a quartered shield with the castles of Castile and lions of León, with the Bourbon escutcheon of pretension at center, all surmounted by a royal crown. The shield is rendered in low relief typical of the pillar-and-waves coinage of New Spain. A circular Latin legend encircles the design, separated from the shield by a plain inner border, with decorative pellet stops between abbreviations.
