The 1730 issue falls squarely in his second reign, during a period when the Mexico City mint was producing macuquina coinage still struck by hand on irregularly shaped flans, a method already considered obsolete in Europe but deeply entrenched in colonial minting practice. KM#R24a designates the assayer-specific variant within the broader cob type. The assayer initial on these pieces is the primary tool for attribution, as die alignment and flan shape are inherently inconsistent.
