| Obverse description | Draped bust of Philip IV facing left, rendered in the characteristic crude hammered style of the period. Mintmark 'B' (assayer) appears to the left of the bust, and the denomination mark '17' (for 1/2 Real) is positioned to the right. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, partially visible around the irregular flan. The portrait displays the king wearing a ruff collar and armored drapery, consistent with Madrid coinage of the mid-17th century. |

| Reverse description | A bold Greek cross divides the field into four quadrants, with alternating castles (Castle of Castile) and lions (Lion of León) placed in the angles, forming the quartered arms of the Spanish Crown. The date 1643 appears at the top of the surrounding legend, with the Latin royal title distributed around the periphery of the irregular flan. The design is characteristic of the macuquina (cob) coinage struck at the Madrid mint during the reign of Philip IV, with the cross dominating the composition in a bold, if imprecisely centered, hammered strike. |
