| Obverse description | Royal crowned monogram of Philip II occupies the central field, flanked by the mint mark and assayer's mark to either side. A crown appears above the monogram, with the legend PHILIPPVS.D.G.HISP arranged around the periphery. A distinctive 'V' mark appears below the horizontal bar of the monogram, a feature consistent across all Philip II Half Real issues from this mint. Numerous varieties exist corresponding to the different assayers active during the period 1572–1598. |
