| Obverse description | Central device depicts the Gothic crowned monogram of King Enrique IV — an intertwined 'E' and 'R' (Enricus Rex) — surmounted by an ornate royal crown rendered in Gothic style. The monogram occupies the central field of the irregularly shaped flan. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, separated by a beaded inner circle, reading: + XPS : VINCIT : XPS : REG HEN, invoking the Christus vincit formula. The overall style is characteristic of late medieval Castilian hammered coinage. |
