Obverse description Cob-type macuquina flan of irregular shape, struck by hammer using a hand-cut die. The field displays a crowned monogram composed of the royal cypher, partially legible due to the characteristic off-center strike inherent to cob coinage. Fragmentary Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading elements of CAROLVS TERTIVS D G in abbreviated form. The planchet is roughly oval with jagged, hand-sheared edges typical of Potosí cob production. Strike details are weak in areas consistent with the crude hammered technique employed at colonial mints.
