Reverse description Central crowned shield bearing the royal arms of Spain, flanked on either side by the crowned Pillars of Hercules, each wrapped with a banner inscribed with the Plus Ultra motto. The entire design is encircled by a Latin legend denoting sovereignty over Spain and the Indies. The mint mark Mo (Mexico City) and the assayers' initials F·M appear in the legend, identifying the place of striking and the responsible assayers.
