背面描述 The crowned Spanish royal shield occupies the central field, displaying quartered arms with castles and lions, with a pomegranate in base and three fleurs-de-lis at center, representing the Bourbon dynasty. The shield is flanked by the Pillars of Hercules, each surmounted by a crown, symbolizing the gateway between the Old and New Worlds. The mint mark, assayer initials, and denomination initial appear in the legend surrounding the composition. The legend identifies the coin as issued for Spain and the Indies from the Mexico City Mint.

附加信息

Carlos IV inherited the Spanish throne in 1788, and his colonial mints continued producing the half real largely as a matter of practical necessity — it was the smallest silver denomination in everyday circulation and functioned as essential change across New Spain's markets and pulperías. The Mexico City mint struck these throughout his reign with no interruption, even as Spain cycled through alliance with France, war with Britain, and the catastrophic defeat at Trafalgar in 1805.

The assayer initials on these pieces shifted across the production run, providing the primary means of dating within the series more precisely than the regnal years suggest.
