| Obverse description | Crowned royal cypher of Carlos II, formed by an interlaced Gothic 'C' monogram surmounted by a crown, occupying the central field. The mint mark 'M' or 'Mo' for Mexico City appears adjacent to the monogram. A partial circular legend surrounds the design, though the irregular cob flan typically obscures much of the inscription. The strike is characteristic of the macuquina (cob) coinage, resulting in an irregular planchet with uneven relief. |
