The Banco de Corrientes operated in one of Argentina's most financially autonomous provinces, which maintained its own banking institutions well into the period when Buenos Aires was consolidating national monetary control. This fractional denomination — half a real expressed simultaneously in the older colonial real system and the newer centavos fuertes — reflects exactly that transitional moment, when two parallel accounting systems coexisted in daily commerce rather than one cleanly replacing the other.
PS1611 is among the more elusive entries in the Corrientes provincial series. The dual denomination inscription alone dates it precisely to a brief window before the fuertes system took full hold in provincial usage.
