| 表面の説明 | Central design features a radiant sunburst composed of fine rays emanating from a six-petalled floral rosette at the centre, enclosed within a plain inner circle. The sunburst is flanked at the lower portion by two curved laurel branches meeting at the base, forming a wreath-like arrangement. The circular legend EST • D • COSTA-R • (Estado de Costa Rica) runs along the upper periphery in Latin characters. The entire design is contained within a beaded border. Note: the example illustrated bears a small suspension hole above the centre. |

Costa Rica's early republican coinage was minted in San José under chronically difficult conditions — limited bullion supply, worn dies, and no trained engravers of note. The 1842 issue falls within the turbulent period surrounding the brief dictatorship of Braulio Carrillo, who was overthrown that same year by Francisco Morazán's invading Central American federalist force. Morazán himself was executed by firing squad in San José in September 1842, just months after seizing power.
KM#32 is known for inconsistent planchet preparation, and examples with full, even surfaces are genuinely scarce.
