The Casa de Moneda de Buenos Aires operated under the government of the Province of Buenos Aires, not any unified Argentine state — the confederation was still decades from forming a coherent national monetary system. This copper fraction circulated during the Rosas era, when Juan Manuel de Rosas dominated provincial politics and trade through the port remained tightly controlled. Small copper pieces like this bore the practical weight of everyday market transactions that silver and early paper emissions could not efficiently serve.
CJ#17 cross-references place this among a short-lived copper series that was eventually demonetized as Buenos Aires moved toward paper currency dependency in the 1850s.
