Reverse description Reverse displays a bold cross pattee dividing the field into four quarters, with alternating castles and lions in the quadrants, following the traditional Spanish colonial heraldic arrangement inherited from the royal arms of Castile and León. The cross is deeply struck and dominates the irregular flan, with the castle motifs in the upper-left and lower-right quarters and the lion passant motifs in the upper-right and lower-left quarters. The design reflects the transitional nature of early Honduran republican coinage, retaining colonial iconographic conventions on a roughly shaped hammered planchet with a partially visible milled border.
