| Popis rubu | Central field features a large Arabic numeral denomination superimposed over a rectilinear lattice or grid pattern. To the right of the central motif, the denomination is inscribed in both Arabic script (نصف قرش) and Latin characters (HALF QIRSH). The upper portion of the field bears dual dates in both the Gregorian (١٩٩٦) and Hijri (١٤١٦) calendars. The legend THE HASHEMITE KINGDOM OF JORDAN arcs around the upper rim in Latin script. |

Jordan's shift to copper plated steel for this denomination in the 1990s was a cost-driven response to the kingdom's prolonged economic strain following the Gulf War, during which Jordan's refusal to join the coalition against Iraq cost it substantial Western aid and IMF support. The dinar lost nearly half its value against the dollar between 1988 and 1995.
KM#60 is the steel-core successor to the earlier bronze issues under the same Hussein ibn Talal, who reigned from 1952 until his death in 1999.
