Reversbeschreibung Central raised circular boss enclosing an intricate Arabic inscription, surrounded by a cruciform linear frame dividing the field into four quadrants, each filled with flowing Arabic calligraphic script. The legend reads 'Makkah al-Mukarramah' (Mecca the Honoured), the mint name, distributed across the quadrants in the characteristic dense Hijazi style. The overall layout mirrors the obverse, with the inscription dominating the entire flan in a bold, stylised hand consistent with the Mecca Mint issues of Husayn ibn Ali.

Zusätzliche Informationen

The Kingdom of Hejaz existed as an independent state for barely a decade. Husayn bin Ali, the Sharif of Mecca, launched the Arab Revolt against Ottoman rule in June 1916 with British encouragement — and backing that proved far less generous than promised. These bronzes were struck at the Mecca mint, one of the few occasions in modern history that the holy city itself served as a functioning production facility for circulating coinage.

The kingdom collapsed in 1925 when Ibn Saud's Wahhabi forces captured Mecca, ending Husayn's rule and absorbing Hejaz into what became Saudi Arabia. Surviving coinage from this short reign is frequently found poorly struck, a consequence of rudimentary mint infrastructure rather than any systematic production flaw.
