The Almoravid fractional silver coinage presents one of the more compressed denominational systems in medieval Islamic numismatics — the half qirat occupies the lowest practical silver unit, and Meknes-mint examples from 'Ali b. Yusuf's reign are among the more difficult to attribute with confidence given how freely dies were shared across North African and Andalusian facilities. 'Ali b. Yusuf ruled for over three decades but spent much of that reign fighting the Almohad insurgency from the Atlas, a conflict that ultimately destroyed the dynasty by 1147.
