Obverse description Central field occupied by a multi-line Persian legend in flowing Nasta'liq script, giving the royal titles and name of Nasir al-Din Shah of the Qajar dynasty. The inscription is arranged in a characteristic Iranian hammered-coin layout with no enclosing border, occupying virtually the entire flan. The irregular, slightly convex planchet is typical of hand-struck Qajar coinage of this period. The surfaces show the characteristic uneven strike and flan irregularities consistent with hammered mint production.
