| Aanvullende informatie |
Maupiti is the smallest and most isolated of the Society Islands' administrative communes, with a population that has hovered around 1,200 for decades. The "Poe rava" denomination name derives from a Tahitian term for a type of black pearl — an acknowledgment of the pearl cultivation industry that reshaped French Polynesia's economy in the latter half of the twentieth century. These aluminium fractional pieces see negligible actual circulation given the islands' near-total dependence on the French franc and later CFP franc in daily commerce.
