Obverse description Elaborately mantled coat of arms of the Bishopric of Hildesheim, surmounted by a bishop's mitre topped with a small cross, flanked by ornate baroque supporters and drapery. The shield displays the heraldic arms of the see, quartered with ecclesiastical and dynastic devices. A circular Latin legend surrounds the design, reading the titles of Bishop Frederick William of Westphalia. The overall composition is executed in a fine baroque engraving style characteristic of mid-eighteenth-century German ecclesiastical coinage.
