Reverse description A dynamic Baroque composition depicting Saint John the Baptist standing centrally in the field, nearly full-length and semi-draped, holding a long reed cross in his left hand and gesturing outward with his right as he preaches. He is surrounded by a crowd of attentive figures seated and reclining on rocky ground to the left and right, rendered with considerable sculptural depth and vitality. The reverse legend PARATE·VIAM·DOMINI arcs across the upper field, and the date 1699 appears in the exergue at the bottom. The entire scene is enclosed within a beaded border consistent with the milled coinage of the Roman mint.
