Obverse description Elaborate heraldic shield displaying the arms of Cardinal Annibale Albani, surmounted by a cardinal's wide-brimmed galero with pendant tassels on either side and crossed keys behind the escutcheon. The shield bears a star above an open book, rendered in high relief in the Baroque style. Above the entire composition rises the papal umbrella (umbraculum), symbolising the Sede Vacante authority. The circular legend SEDE · VACANTE · MDCCXXIV runs along the periphery, separated by pellets.
