Obverse description Central field occupied by a large interlaced cursive cypher composed of the letters P and D with an ampersand, rendered in an elegant script style characteristic of late 18th-century trade tokens. Surmounting the cypher is a passant lion crest. The legend KENDAL arcs along the upper periphery in raised Roman capitals.

Reverse description A detailed depiction of a Royal Navy man-of-war under full sail proceeding to the right, rendered with considerable engraving skill showing multiple masts, billowing sails, rigging, gun ports along the hull, and stylised waves beneath the vessel. A pennant flies from the mainmast. The patriotic legend THE WOODEN WALLS OF OLD ENGLAND encircles the design along the toothed inner border, reading from lower left around the upper periphery to lower right.
