| Obverse description | Left-facing effigy of Queen Victoria with hair drawn up and gathered into a large bun, encircled by a laurel wreath and secured with a ribbon, representing the so-called 'Bun Head' portrait — the second coinage portrait of her reign, modelled by Leonard Charles Wyon after William Wyon's original design. The truncation of the neck is visible at the lower obverse field. The royal legend is arranged around the periphery in Latin, separated by colons. |
