| Obverse description | Young, uncrowned draped bust of Queen Victoria facing left, her hair elaborately waved and gathered into a chignon at the nape, engraved by William Wyon in the Young Head portrait style. The legend VICTORIA DEI GRATIA arcs around the periphery from lower left to lower right, rendered in raised Latin capitals. The date 1839 appears in the lower exergual area beneath the truncation of the bust. The field is smooth and unadorned, and the entire design is framed by a fine raised beaded border. |
