Obverse description At centre, the heraldic Shield of Arms of Bury St Edmunds surmounted by a wolf passant holding a crowned head, the traditional emblem of St Edmund. A continuous peripheral legend in Latin script encircles the design within a toothed (dentilated) border. The composition is rendered in high relief with fine engraving detail characteristic of late 18th-century English trade token production.
