Obverse description The heraldic shield of arms of the Borough of Shrewsbury occupies the central field, rendered in relief with fine engraved detail. The date 1794 appears above the shield, while the Latin legend SHREWSBURY 1794 HALFPENNY encircles the design within a raised border. The composition is characteristic of the provincial token coinage of the late eighteenth century, engraved in a formal heraldic style typical of Conder token issues.
