Obverse description A fully-rigged three-masted sailing vessel navigates to the right over stylized waves, her sails billowing and a Union Jack flag flying from the foremast. The ship is rendered in fine detail, showing the hull, rigging, and multiple square sails set on each mast. A small pennant flies from the bowsprit to the right. The entire design is contained within a continuous beaded border encircling the coin's field.
