| Obverse description | Plain field bearing the large date 1855 at centre, with a faint outline of what appears to be a small vessel or decorative device above the numerals. The circular legend PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, interrupted by a small floral ornament at the base, runs along the inner border in raised Latin capitals. The entire design is enclosed within a continuous beaded border, giving the token a neat, utilitarian appearance consistent with mid-nineteenth-century colonial copper coinage. |
