| 裏面の説明 | The reverse of this hammered silver halfpenny carries the moneyer's name in Anglo-Saxon letterforms arranged across the field, reading EdEL [weald], representing the moneyer Aethelweald. The legend is set within a plain field enclosed by a beaded border consistent with the non-portrait light coinage convention. The lettering is boldly struck with the angular, somewhat rustic character common to Mercian issues of the 780s. As with the obverse, this is a half-cut specimen, with the coin having been divided along its diameter. The moneyer Aethelweald is associated with the Canterbury and London mints active under Offa. |
