Aanvullende informatie

The Middlesex National Series conders were produced commercially by private token issuers to fill the near-total absence of regal copper coinage in late 18th-century Britain — the Royal Mint had effectively abandoned small denomination production for decades. DH#982 specifically references the Dalton-Hamer catalog attribution, the standard reference for this notoriously sprawling series of merchant and speculative tokens. Many Middlesex pieces were struck purely for sale to collectors rather than circulation, and the "National Series" issues fall squarely in that category — cabinet pieces from the start.
