Obverse description Two standing figures face one another across a table or document, rendered in the neoclassical allegorical style typical of late 18th-century Conder tokens. The figure on the left is robed and holds a staff or sceptre, while the figure on the right raises one hand in a declaratory gesture over a central document inscribed MAGNA CHARTA. A raised inner legend arc reads MAGNA CHARTA above the tableau, with the full peripheral legend ERSKINE AND GIBBS TRIAL BY JURY MAGNA CHARTA BILL OF RIGHTS encircling the design, referencing the celebrated defence counsel Thomas Erskine and Vicary Gibbs and the constitutional rights at stake in the 1794 treason trials.
