正面描述 Three-quarter angled architectural view of the Magdalen College School in Wainfleet, Lincolnshire, rendered in fine relief at centre of the field. A circular legend surrounds the building, with the date and a decorative ornament positioned below in the exergue area. The border is formed by evenly spaced teeth, characteristic of the milled Conder token series.

附加信息

Wainfleet is a small market town in the Lincolnshire fens, and its appearance on a provincial copper token reflects the near-total breakdown of regal small change supply in the 1790s. The Royal Mint had effectively abandoned halfpenny and farthing production through the 1780s, leaving merchants across England to commission their own tokens from private diesinkers — a practice that generated thousands of distinct types between roughly 1787 and 1797. Dalton & Hamer's reference catalogues this piece as DH#8 within the Lincolnshire series, distinguishing it from closely related Wainfleet issues that share obverse or reverse dies with tokens struck for neighboring towns.
