The circular legend DEUS NOBIS HÆC OTIA FECIT — a Virgilian motto translating as 'God has bestowed these blessings on us' — runs around the periphery, separated by a denticulated border, emphasising the civic pride and mercantile prosperity of late 18th-century Liverpool. |
