| Beschrijving voorzijde | Crude left-facing crowned effigy of King John Balliol occupies the central field, rendered in the characteristic hammered style of late 13th-century Scottish coinage. The bust is schematic in execution, with a beaded or pellet border encircling the design. A partial Latin legend runs around the periphery, reading IOHANNES DEI GRA, identifying the monarch by name and divine right. The overall relief is low and the flan irregular, as is typical of hand-struck halfpennies of this period. |
