Obverse description The Stanley heraldic crest occupies the central field: an eagle with wings displayed, perched atop and clutching a swaddled infant (the Eagle and Child), both devices resting upon a cap of maintenance. The composition is bold and deeply struck in a somewhat archaic engraving style. The Latin motto SANS · CHANGER arcs around the upper periphery, with the date 1723 positioned in the lower exergual area. The entire design is contained within a finely engrailed border.
