Additional information

James Stanley, the 10th Earl of Derby, issued coinage for the Isle of Man under the hereditary lordship his family had held since 1405. The 1723 copper pieces were struck in London, almost certainly by the same contracted moneyers producing regal coinage at the time. Stanley died the following year, and the lordship passed through a complicated inheritance before the Crown ultimately purchased the island's feudal rights from the Atholl family in the Revestment of 1765.

The Pn6 designation suggests pattern or proof status in some references — Pr#27 confirms this is catalogued as a proof striking rather than a circulation issue.
