Reverse description Central field displays an Irish harp surmounted by a royal crown, struck on the copper centre plug of this bimetallic issue, with the distinctive contrast between the copper centre and the surrounding pewter ring clearly visible. The date 1690 is divided to either side of the crown. The circumferential Latin legend MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX — abbreviating Magnae Britanniae, Franciae et Hiberniae Rex — encircles the design within the pewter outer ring. The overall relief is low and the surfaces show significant porosity and wear consistent with the base composition of this emergency-issue coinage.
