Obverse description Within a central beaded circle, a passant lion facing right is depicted in high relief, with a wheel to its lower left, all set within a plain inner field. A beaded inner border separates the central device from two concentric legend bands: the inner legend reads ELIZABETH STREET and MELBOURNE, while the outer legend reads HIDE & DE CARLE around the upper periphery and GROCERS & WINE MERCHANTS around the lower periphery, all separated by decorative stops. The overall design is enclosed by a plain raised rim.
