Reverse description Britannia seated to the left upon a rock, holding a trident in her right hand and a shield at her side, in imitation of the standard British halfpenny reverse type. The date 1767 appears in the exergue below a ground line. The surrounding legend, deliberately garbled as typical of evasion tokens, reads BRITISH followed by an uncertain element. The overall design closely mimics the official Britannia type but with intentional errors to evade the counterfeiting laws.
