This is a British 18th-century token rather than an official regal issue — "Gloriovs Iervis" refers to Admiral Sir John Jervis, who would later become Earl St Vincent, though the 1771 date predates his famous victory at Cape St Vincent by over two decades. The spelling "Gloriovs" and the patriotic "Britons Rule" slogan place it firmly within the tradition of political and commemorative copper tokens that flooded British circulation during periods when official halfpenny coinage was chronically undersupplied by the Royal Mint.
