Obverse description Left-facing crowned effigy of King George VI, modelled by Percy Metcalfe, wearing the Imperial State Crown rendered in fine detail. The truncation of the neck is plain and unadorned, with the engraver's initials 'PM' visible below. A continuous circular legend surrounds the portrait, separated from the toothed border by a flat rim. The portrait is the small-head variety introduced for the first George VI coinage type.
