Obverse lettering GEORGE RULES
Reverse description A seated figure of Britannia facing left, rendered in low relief in imitation of the contemporary official halfpenny reverse type, with the date 1773 present in the exergue. The peripheral legend BRITAINS ISLES encircles the design, intentionally substituting the standard BRITANNIA inscription so as to evade the legal prohibition on counterfeiting the official coinage. The overall execution is characteristic of the crude private manufacture typical of late 18th-century evasion tokens.
