Obverse description Facing crowned bust of Edward VI within a beaded inner circle, rendered in the crude, low-relief style characteristic of the base billon coinage of the third period. The king's features are schematically depicted with a broad face and stylised crown. The surrounding legend is partially visible around the coin's irregular flan, reading portions of the royal titulature in Latin. The overall strike is typical of the emergency base issues, showing uneven metal flow and a roughly circular planchet.
