| Obverse description | Crowned facing effigy of King Edward I depicted in a schematic, angular style characteristic of late 13th-century English hammered coinage, enclosed within an inner beaded circle. The king wears a bifoliate crown, with three pellets arranged in a trefoil pattern on the breast of his robes, a diagnostic feature of class 4e. A bold outer legend in uncial Latin characters surrounds the portrait, separated from the effigy by the inner beaded border. The overall design exhibits the flat, two-dimensional artistry typical of Edwardian hammered halfpence. |
