Additional information

Connecticut was among the most prolific issuers of state copper coinage in the 1780s, and 1787 was its peak production year — dozens of distinct die marriages are known from that single year alone. The state contracted minting to private operators rather than running a public facility, which is why so many die combinations, including this "MB Left, CONNECT" variety, exist: different contractors cut their own dies with little standardization enforced.

The abbreviation "CONNECT" rather than the full state name reflects die-cutter economy. Miller's attribution system remains the primary reference for sorting these marriages, with some varieties known from fewer than ten survivors.
