Obverse description Laureate draped bust of a male figure facing left, rendered in a somewhat crude, folk-art style characteristic of the so-called 'Laughing Head' die variety, named for the distinctive upturned expression of the portrait. The hair is depicted with flowing strands beneath a laurel wreath, with a ribbon tie visible at the nape. A star or pellet ornament appears at the lower left of the bust truncation. The surrounding legend reads AUCTORI CONNEC, separated by pellet stops, within a toothed or spiked border.
