Reverse description A seated female figure, representing Liberty, is depicted facing right in the central field, holding a spray of olive or laurel in her left hand and a long staff or scepter in her right. She is rendered in flowing classical robes and seated upon a rocky or draped base. The date 1786 appears in the lower exergue. The surrounding legend INDE: ET. LIB. — abbreviated from 'Independentia et Libertas' (Independence and Liberty) — flanks the figure on left and right respectively. A toothed border frames the reverse.
