| Description de l’avers | This mule token combines the obverse die of the Myddelton token, dated 1796, with the reverse of the Copper Company of Upper Canada halfpenny. The allegorical composition depicts the figure of Hope, bearing an anchor, presenting two children to Liberty, who stands holding a pole surmounted by a Phrygian liberty cap. A cornucopia appears behind Liberty, symbolizing the fertility of the proposed Kentucky settlement, while a plant sprig is placed between the figures as a further allusion to Philip Myddelton's Kentucky venture. The design closely follows that of the Myddelton token, which was originally produced for a planned British settlement in Kentucky. The peripheral legend reads BRITISH SETTLEMENT KENTUCKY 1796. |

A fine dentilated border is visible along the rim, consistent with the milled production at the Soho Mint. |
