Reverse description A seated allegorical female figure, representing Industry or Commerce, faces left in the center of the field, draped in classical robes. She rests one hand upon a harp to her left, while to her right are depicted industrial emblems including a cogwheel and mechanical tools, referencing the copper-working trade of Macclesfield. The date 1791 appears in the exergue below a ground line. The peripheral legend MACCLESFIELD HALFPENNY arcs around the upper portion of the design within a toothed border, the whole composition executed in the accomplished neo-classical style characteristic of Hancock's Conder token work.
