附加信息

Montrose's 1797 halfpenny was issued during the great wave of provincial copper coinage that flooded Britain when the Royal Mint's chronic failure to produce adequate small change left merchants and towns to fend for themselves. The Boulton & Watt steam press at Soho had not yet displaced the cottage industry of private token issuers, and Scottish burghs like Montrose were among the many municipal bodies that stepped into the void.

DH#29 is catalogued by Dalton & Hamer as one of the scarcer Angus pieces from this period, with surviving populations thinner than comparable tokens from Glasgow or Edinburgh.
